History

Long Bay has a rich history, with 600 acres used as farming land by the Vaughan family from 1862. George Vaughan and his descendants lived and farmed here for approximately 100 years. The family built the iconic homestead located in the Regional Park in 1863, which is now used as a museum and event space.

The Developer

Templeton has a significant track record and reputation as a developer of carefully curated, quality places for people and families. Common to all projects is a strong focus on design aesthetics while always delivering places where people want to live.

Take a look at our website to see more Templeton projects.

The Vaughan family ran the current picnic areas as a camping ground until they sold the park to the Auckland Regional Council in 1965.

Among the park’s interesting historic sites is a World War II gun emplacement north of the beach (on the coastal walk). This was part of a defence network to protect the Waitemata harbour from Japanese invasion.

The farmland has been carefully transferred into private ownership and the development we see today has been thoughtfully master planned and built. This has included key features such as the new Glenvar Ridge Road and Long Bay retail. Long Bay has an abundance of green spaces - carefully protected to stay this way forever for residents’ enjoyment and to protect their investment.
